What's your injury history, and how much does it matter?
Here's the first thing to understand. Everyone has an injury history. We all have aches, pains, maybe even a past orthopedic injury or surgery.
TWO BIG RED FLAGS
Any coach you plan to train with should be asking about this. If they're not, that's a red flag. And if everyone at the studio does the exact same workout, that's another one.
Someone in their 20s with no knee issues should be doing a different version of the program than someone in their 50s with a torn meniscus. One-size-fits-all isn't training, it's a liability.
INJURIES DON'T DISQUALIFY YOU
That said, having injuries does not mean you can't train. Acknowledging them and modifying the program accordingly is what makes the experience effective and pain-free.
After all, you're going to the gym to get stronger, more flexible, and to feel better. Not worse. Right?
So if a coach isn't asking about your history, ask yourself why. The good ones always want to know.
